Communications Manager

Full-time/Exempt position includes evening and weekend hours

Fountaindale Public Library District, which proudly serves the diverse community of Bolingbrook, is seeking an experienced Communications Manager to manage all aspects of communication, marketing, and public relations for the District. This position reports directly to the Executive Director. 

Duties include: Plans, implements, evaluates and coordinates public relations and marketing activities for the library. Serves as the District webmaster and plans, implements, coordinates, and evaluates all of the District’s online presence. Establishes and executes marketing plan, including establishing visual identity, coordinating press releases, fliers and posters for library events. Serves as the editor of the library newsletter in all formats. Coordinates and oversees public relations and marketing for all District special events. Chairs the District marketing committee. Provides training and instruction to staff on related software and hardware. Seeks opportunities to promote the library to the community; implements and evaluates outcomes. Represents the library publicly at meetings and other activities as assigned. Staffs promotional events. Maintains appropriate relationships between the library and media. Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Requires expertise typically acquired through completion of Bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism or public relations.

Experience: Minimum of 3 years public relations or marketing experience in a comparable business, organization, or library required.

Business letter writing, marketing copy writing, and proof reading

Strong Proficiency with Windows and Apple operating systems and applications including, but not limited to, the Adobe Suite and the iLife Suite

Knowledge of website design and maintenance

Knowledge of content management system design and implementation

Knowledge of social media

Versed in printing technologies and print vendor technical requirements

Knowledge of print production

Communication

Communicates exceptionally well in English, both orally and in writing.

Supervisory Responsibility: Position has supervisory responsibility. Incumbent is responsible to direct employee(s) engaged in library community events and publicity.

Interview, hire, review work, assist, develop, counsel, evaluate, discipline and enforce library rules and policies.

 Circulation Aide

Fountaindale Public Library District, which proudly serves the diverse community of Bolingbrook, Illinois, is seeking an experienced individual to sort, organize and re-shelve all library materials.

Duties include: Re-shelves all library materials, sorts and prepares carts as needed, removes materials from drop boxes and discharges materials as needed, assists with room set-ups as necessary, reads shelves regularly to ensure materials are shelved in their proper order, straightens materials on the shelves, performs housekeeping and maintenance of facility and grounds as needed, performs minor repairs on materials, assists with special projects as needed, performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Education: Entry level position.  Experience: None. Skills: Office & Library Ability to arrange materials in alphabetical and numerical order.  Communication Communicates effectively in English, both orally and in writing.  

Physical Requirements: The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the functions of this job.  Physical requirements include: good speaking, hearing and vision ability, excellent manual dexterity, ability to push a cart weighing 100 pounds, ability to lift and carry up to and 50 pounds occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently.  Position requires standing for prolonged periods of time.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in a typical library environment. Part-time position.  May require some weekend and evening work.

Starting salary: $9.72 per hour

Part-time position: 19 hours per week

Children’s Services Assistant

$14.73 per hour

Duties: Provides general reference services and assistance in the library and on the telephone to children and adults. Plans, prepares, and conducts children’s programs, as assigned. Assists patrons in the use of computers, online services, Internet, and other equipment available for public use. Plans and prepares materials for displays, bibliographies, flyers, and other materials. Assists in maintenance of children’s collections as assigned. Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Education: Requires expertise typically acquired through completion of a LA/LTA certification in an Associate’s degree program or a two-year degree in child development. Experience: Up to one year of related experience in a comparable business, school, organization, or library required. Skills: Office & Library Working knowledge of personal computers and software applications. Working knowledge of automated information retrieval systems Communication Communicates effectively in English, both orally and in writing. Spanish speaking a plus.

Duties: Provides all adult and teen services to patrons in the library, on the telephone, through email, and other means of communication. Assists patrons in the use of public access terminals, online services, Internet, and other equipment available for public use.  Plans and prepares materials for book displays and flyers. Assists department with ordering materials as needed. Assists with adult and teen programming as assigned. Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications: Education:  Requires expertise typically acquired through completion of a LA/LTA certification in an Associate’s degree program.   Experience: Minimum of 6 months related experience in a comparable business, organization, or library required. Skills: Office & Library Working knowledge of personal computers and software applications. Working knowledge of automated information retrieval systems. Working knowledge of online databases, ebook technology, and technological applications a plus. Communication Communicates effectively in English, both orally and in writing. Spanish speaking a plus.
