Position: Adult and Teen Services Manager - Exempt
Reports to: Library Director
Salary: $54,500
Manages the adult and teen services department, organizing, implementing, and monitoring all aspects of programs and services to meet the needs of library patrons and achieve the goals of the department and the library.
Duties: Manages reference, interlibrary loan, adult and young adult programming, reader's advisory, and services that focus on satisfying the needs of adult and teen library patrons when using the services and facilities of the library. Organizes and leads a group of employees to achieve the overall goals of the department. Organizes and administers the department utilizing and applying technical expertise and knowledge so that the department will meet the professional standards as defined by the library board and the library director. Provides general reference services to patrons and other libraries. Oversees collection management and development for the adult and teen collections. Oversees the local history collection for the library. Plans and controls the department operating budget in conjunction with the library director. Provides administrative support by preparing and submitting required records and reports in keeping with the policies and procedures of the library. Organizes and leads departmental meetings. Participates in professional development activities relating to areas of responsibility. Actively participates in the developmental plans of subordinate employees. Responds to any building responsibility need as required. Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Education: Requires expertise typically acquired through completion of a MLS program from an ALA-accredited library school. Experience: Minimum of 6 years related adult library service experience in a comparable business, organization, or library including progressive management experience required. Skills: Office & Library Library computer systems and processes including word processing, spreadsheet and database software. Knowledge of reference techniques and library information technology. Knowledge of federal, state and local laws that impact library operations. Communication Communicates effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
Supervisory Responsibility: Position has supervisory responsibility - 12 full-time and 4 part-time staff
Working Conditions: Work is performed in a typical library environment. Full-time position. May require some weekend and evening work.
