Photography or Filming Policy for the Fountaindale Public Library
The Fountaindale Public Library District may accommodate requests for interior non-commercial or commercial filming or photography provided such photography or filming does not interfere with ordinary library operations or patrons’ rights to privacy. This privilege is at the discretion of the Library Director or his/her designee.
For purposes of this policy, photography or filming refers to all current and future static, still, or video imaging.
1. Non-Commercial (private use) photography or filming
Non-commercial photography or filming is generally allowed within the library provided that such activity does not capture identifiable likenesses of individuals without their written permission. Individuals who photograph or film must honor requests from library users and staff who do not want to be included in photos or film.
All photography or filming is at the discretion of the Library Director or his/her designee. If the photography or filming requires a significant amount of time and/or equipment setup, the appropriate library staff should be contacted at least 48 hours prior to photographing or filming so that proper accommodations can be made.
In all instances, the library reserves the right to cease photography or filming if it results in disruption of the ordinary library environment or operations.
Photos of minors are prohibited at all times without the written permission of their parent or guardian.
The library accepts no liability for the use of photos or film resulting from this activity.
2. Commercial or news-related photography or filming
Individuals or news media requesting permission for commercial or news-related photography within the Fountaindale Public Library should contact the Library Director or his/her designee at least 48 hours prior to photographing or filming. Such photography and filming may be allowed if the activity is not disruptive to staff or patrons and does not interfere with the ordinary library environment or operations.
In keeping with the Library’s mission to provide library services to the community, please observe the following rules regarding photography and filming in the library:
Flash photography or filming shall only be allowed if specifically authorized by the Library Director or his/her designee.
All entrances, exits, and staff areas must be kept free and clear of obstructions at all times.
Photography or filming of all library owned copyrighted art works may be allowed IF appropriate credit is given to the piece(s). Appropriate credit includes the name of the piece and the artist.
Photography or filming of all non-library owned pieces may be allowed only after obtaining appropriate permission from the artist.
3. Photography of architectural works
Since the Fountaindale Public Library District building is visible from a public place, exterior photographing or video imaging is allowed.
4. Library photography or filming
The Fountaindale Public Library may elect to photograph or film library programs and/or events. The library reserves the right to include these images in brochures, flyers, web pages, news releases or other promotional materials as well as by media outlets and event participants.
