Fountaindale Public Library District, which proudly serves the diverse community of Bolingbrook, Illinois, is seeking a detail-oriented and industrious individual to catalog library materials in a timely manner and provide the best access and discovery for library users. This position is responsible for copy cataloging and classifying materials as well as various database maintenance and cataloging projects. The ideal candidate is an organized and diligent self-starter that demonstrates knowledge of integrated library systems, MARC, RDA, OCLC, and the Dewey Decimal Classification system.
Part-time position: Part-time/Non-exempt position (25 hours per week).
Starting salary: $19.00 per hour

Duties: Copy catalogs library materials following national and local consortium standards, using the OCLC cataloging utility and the library’s integrated library system. Edits previously cataloged materials in the database to resolve headings issues and correct errors that impact patron access. Reviews local item records created by acquisitions staff for accuracy and correctness. Classifies material according to the Dewey Decimal system for nonfiction books. Maintains system of locally devised genre headings for movies and music. Serves as a cataloging representative to the consortium and other appropriate groups. Serves as a resource person for other library district employees with queries about cataloging rules and practices. Performs special cataloging projects and database maintenance as assigned. Creates on occasion original catalog records of print and nonprint materials in the OCLC database according to national standards (OCLC, RDA/AACR2, MARC, DDC, LCSH). Contributes to the overall efficiency of the Collection Management & Technical Services Department. Participates in professional development activities relating to areas of responsibility. Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Education: Expertise typically acquired through completion of an LA/LTA certification in an Associate's degree program preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 1 year cataloging experience in a comparable business, organization, or library required.

Knowledge of productivity suites.
Familiarity with OCLC bibliographic formats and standards, search strategies and cataloging interfaces.
Knowledge of RDA/AACR2, MARC, LCSH, DDC. Knowledge of integrated library systems.
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
Ability to meet deadlines.
Ability to adapt to and effectively implement change.
Ability to exercise reasonable and independent judgment and discretion.
Communication: Communicates effectively in English, both orally and in writing. Speaking skills in other languages, particularly Spanish, is a plus. Ability to stay calm and effective in difficult situations. Ability to empathize and relate to the needs of all patrons and staff.
Supervisory Responsibility: May assign, organize and check work of Technical Service Aides in the absence of the Processing Supervisor & Cataloger.
Contacts: Internal; Library staff and management. External; Vendors and cataloging contacts at other libraries and organizations.
Physical Requirements: The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the functions of this job. Physical requirements include: good speaking, hearing and vision ability, excellent manual dexterity, ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently.
Working Conditions: Work is performed in a typical library environment. Part-time position.
