Experts recommend children hear at least 1,000 stories before they learn to read. Families who read aloud to their children strengthen their language skills and build their vocabulary. Start your child’s love of learning today with our 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten initiative.
Fountaindale Public Library cardholders can sign up for 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten at the Children’s Services Desk.
When you sign up, you’ll get a free tote bag (perfect for all the books you’ll be checking out) and your first reading log. For every book you read to your child, fill in a circle on the log. You can count the same book more than once, and remember to include books from library storytimes, daycare and preschool, too. After you finish 100 books, bring your completed log to our Children’s Services Desk for a little prize and a new log.
You can also download our reading log from home. This is a great option if you’re unable to make it to the library right now. Just stop by with your completed logs when you’re ready to collect your prizes. If you have any questions or need more information, you can contact our Children’s Services staff by calling 630.685.4181.
This program is made possible by the generosity of the Friends of Fountaindale.
