Fountaindale Public Library District, which proudly serves the diverse community of Bolingbrook, Illinois, is seeking an industrious and organized individual to catalog library materials in a bustling Collection Services Department.
This position is responsible for original and copy cataloging and classification of materials to provide the best access and discovery for our library users. The ideal candidate is a diligent, detail-oriented team player with demonstrated working knowledge of integrated library systems, MARC, RDA, OCLC and the Dewey Decimal classification system.
Full-time position: Non-exempt position (37.5 hours per week)
Starting Salary: $20.45 per hour

Performs original and copy cataloging of print, AV and digital resources according to national, state, local and consortium standards and guidelines.
Classifies library materials according to national, state, local and consortium standards and maintains schema of locally devised genres for fiction, movies and music.
Maintains bibliographic and item records in the database. Performs quality control of database. Reviews and corrects records when necessary.
Coordinates with Department Supervisors and Manager to ensure materials are consistently flowing through the department in a timely manner. Coordinates with department staff to complete the processing of library materials.
Assists with checking in periodicals into the database as needed. Assists with processing magazines and newspapers for circulation and public use as needed.
Performs special cataloging projects and database maintenance as assigned.
Contributes in the creation and maintenance of procedural documentation and instructions.
Prepares monthly reports of activity. Maintains and provides statistical reports on a monthly, annually and as-needed basis.
Participates in departmental initiatives and helps facilitate departmental projects and goals.
Participates in professional development activities relating to areas of responsibility. Keeps informed of current information and trends.
Assists with the processing and repair of library materials when necessary.
Assists with maintaining attractive displays of library materials throughout the library.
Performs other duties as assigned
Education: Expertise typically acquired through completion of an LA/LTA certification program in an associate’s degree program. MLS or MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited library school a plus. Emphasis in cataloging or technical services preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 1 year cataloging experience in a comparable business, organization or library required. Public Library experience is desirable.
Knowledge of productivity suites.
Familiarity with OCLC bibliographic formats and standards, search strategies and cataloging interfaces.
Knowledge of RDA, MARC, LCSH, DDC.
Knowledge of integrated library systems.
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks. Ability to meet deadlines.
Ability to adapt to and effectively implement change.
Ability to exercise reasonable and independent judgment and discretion.
Communicates effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
Speaking skills in other languages, particularly Spanish, is a plus.
Ability to stay calm and effective in difficult situations.
Ability to empathize and relate to the needs of all patrons and staff.
May assign, organize and check work of Aides in the absence of the Cataloging Supervisor.
Internal: Library staff and management.
External: Personnel at other libraries.

Physical requirements include: good speaking, hearing and vision ability, excellent manual dexterity, ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 20 pounds frequently.
Work is performed in a typical library environment. Full-time position. Some evening and weekend shifts are required.
