The Fountaindale Public Library is seeking a dynamic, progressive and tech-savvy Readers Advisory Librarian to assist patrons at our innovative southwest suburban library. This librarian will serve with the Adult & Teen Services team in planning, organizing and implementing programs and services that meet the goals of the library to enlighten and entertain patrons and our community.
Significant time will also be spent staffing our various service desks. Candidates must have experience providing in-depth readers advisory assistance, as well as reference services, leading technology classes and contributing online blog posts. This librarian should possess passion for utilizing and promoting digital materials and technology resources, as well as experience working with teen patrons. Full-time position: Non-exempt position (37.5 hours per week) includes evening and weekend hours
Starting Salary: $25.64 per hour

Provides readers advisory assistance and library service to internal and external customers.
Directly involved with coordinating and administering Summer Adventure programs.
Plans and coordinates library book clubs.
Assists patrons in basic and advanced use of eResources (eBooks, eAudiobooks and streaming media)
Understands and enforces District policies and procedures while safeguarding intellectual freedom and patron privacy.
Provides in-depth research, reference and readers advisory to patrons and staff.
Provides in-depth readers advisory training in-house for staff.
Keeps informed of current information and trends at the local and regional library level.
Participates in professional development activities relating to areas of responsibility.
Works with Adult and Teen Services management staff to establish benchmarks and to develop, design and integrate initiatives and services for patrons and fellow staff.
Coordinates, supervises, hires, trains and schedules Adult and Teen Services Specialists to provide patron assistance, readers advisory, promotion of library services and programs to patrons in the Library District.
Actively participates in the developmental plans of subordinate employees.
Leads library wide committees for special projects, strategic planning, new library initiatives, departmental development and consortia wide development.
Works closely with the Collection Management and Technical Services Department to promote the collection as well as communicating patron input, feedback and requests.
Serves as the District representative at cross library committees and large programs.
Plans, prepares and conducts Adult and Teen Services programs and leads cross departmental programming committees or projects.
Hires performers in collaboration with Adult and Teen Services Management team and programming librarian, as needed.
Evaluates all Adult and Teen Services programs under the leadership of the Adult and Teen Services management team and programming librarian.
Assesses functionality and productivity of cross-departmental programming committees or projects.
Performs all duties of the Adult and Teen Services Specialists, when needed.
Prepares and submits required records, purchase requests and reports in keeping with the policies and procedures of the library.
Work with the Collection Management and Technical Services team to create or upkeep displays of material.
Works closely with the Communications Department to create bibliographies, blogs and other print or online library promotional material.
Serves as building responsibility lead.
Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Education: Requires expertise acquired through completion of a MLS program from an ALA accredited library school. Emphasis in Adult Services and Readers Advisory Services preferred.
Experience: At least one year of Adult Services and Readers Advisory Services experience in a comparable school, business, organization or library preferred.
Knowledge of Readers Advisory Services, principles, trends, practices, programming and technology.
Knowledge of Adult and Teen services, principles, trends, practices and technology.
Basic knowledge of Adult literature, film and music trends, popular materials and reference materials in a variety of formats.
Knowledge of productivity suites and integrated library systems.
Knowledge of reference techniques and digital information retrieval.
Ability to incorporate technology into programming and other public services.
Ability to effectively use a variety of tablets and similar devices.
Ability to exercise reasonable and independent judgment and discretion.
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
Ability to analyze and synthesize data to produce new or revised processes and procedures.
Ability to adapt to and effectively implement change.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and public.
Communicates effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
Spanish speaking skills are a plus.
Ability to stay calm and effective in difficult situations.
Ability to empathize and relate to the needs of all patrons.
Prepares and delivers oral presentations.
Position has supervisory responsibility. Interview, hire, train, encourage, review work, inspire, assist, develop, counsel, evaluate, discipline and enforce library rules and policies.
Internal: Library staff and management
External: Patrons, school staff, performers, community organizations, vendors and staff from other libraries.

Physical requirements for this position include: good speaking, hearing and vision ability, ability to push carts of library materials weighing up to 100 pounds rarely, lifting materials weighing up to 50 pounds rarely and lifting materials up to 25 pounds occasionally.
Work is performed in a typical library environment. Full-time position. Requires some weekend and evening work.
