If you have ever looked at the eResources page of our website, you will notice that we have a lot. Today I am focusing on the ones that benefit employers, employees and the soon-to-be employed. I have also included links to Niche Academy or other sources when available for tips on using each resource.

BRAINFUSE JOBNOW!

Access live online tutoring, writing labs, group collaboration classrooms, resume writing assistance, high school equivalency and U.S. citizenship test preparation and more. Please note, Google Chrome is recommended when using this resource.

One of the most valuable aspects of this resource is resume help. After submitting your resume, one of the trained professionals from the service will look over your resume and recommend any changes to improve appearance, content and formatting. I submitted my own resume and it made me much more confident when applying for my current position.

BUSINESS SOURCE PREMIER

Access full-text articles from more than 2,200 journals dating back to 1965, including company profiles, industry reports, market research reports and SWOT analyses.

You can pull out a lot of good information if you know what you are looking for. I found the company profiles sections to be very useful. If you do not have previous experience using a database, I highly recommend you check out out the link below.

MORNINGSTAR

Make informed investment decisions with real-time access to comprehensive data and independent analysis on thousands of investments, spanning mutual funds, stocks, exchange-traded funds, closed-end funds, college savings plans and more.

Morningstar offers even more robust company profiles than Business Source Premier, though they are geared towards investing. Its most used feature is the fund rating system. If you don’t know where to start, check the Held & Education section.

ReferenceUSA

Research millions of U.S. and Canadian businesses by industry, sales, business size or location as well as consumer and lifestyle data to create marketing lists and conduct competitive analysis.

This service lets you do searches of all kinds for useful information. I had a patron come in requesting to know all the new businesses in Bolingbrook that opened in the past year. With the U.S. New Businesses database, I was easily able to pull this information. I was also able to provide a heat map of the results to show a general idea of where the most businesses were located.

WALL STREET JOURNAL

Access comprehensive coverage dating back to 1984 from the world’s leading financial newspaper.

While it does not have real-time information like Morningstar or Valueline, it offers general information on a variety of businesses, politics, investing as well as other related topics. I would recommend checking out some of the older issues as it gives a cool perspective on how things have changed in those areas. We also offer the publication in print as well.

As always, if you have any issues using any of these services, feel free to visit us up on the 3rd floor.
