Why is Reading 1,000 Books Important?
Experts recommend children hear at least 1,000 stories before they learn to read. Families who read aloud to their children strengthen their child’s language skills and build their vocabulary. Start your child’s love of learning today with our 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten initiative.
How Does It Work?
Fountaindale Public Library cardholders can sign up for 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten at the Children’s Services Desk.
When you sign up, you’ll get a free bag and your first reading log. Color a dragon egg on the reading log for every book you read. You can count the same book more than once, and remember to include books read at library storytimes, daycare and preschool, too. After you finish reading 100 books, bring your completed log to our Children’s Services Desk for a small prize and a new log.
You can also download our reading log from home. Just stop by with your completed logs when you’re ready to collect your prizes. If you have any questions or need more information, you can contact our Children’s Services staff at 630.685.4181.
