As a mom and previous elementary special education assistant, I still get those swirling feelings this time of year—a mix of anticipation, excitement for the year ahead and a bit of wistfulness. But one thing is for certain: I really, really wish I had known about Studio 300 to help me create some unique and thoughtful back-to-school items for my kids!
In this spirit, I curated some creative and thoughtful ideas for the amazing little ones in your life using Studio 300’s maker machines. Scroll down for some quick and money-saving ideas.
One quick note. Before you get started with any of these projects, make sure you complete our mandatory Studio 300 Orientation and Maker Lab Training.
First Day of School Project
Announce your child’s incoming school year with this adorable keepsake created on the Studio’s Glowforge machine! For this project, I used a sheet of medium draftboard and followed the project instructions provided by Glowforge. I chose to leave the sign in its natural wood condition, but feel free to color it using paint pens, Crayola markers or Sharpies.
Cost Overview: The draftboard will cost $9, but you won’t need all of it for this project, so you can use the rest to make a teacher’s gift or other cute items on the Glowforge. Check out other design ideas at glowforge.com.

Personalized Water Bottles

Personalized water bottles with sticker vinyl
Customize your child’s water bottle using the Studio’s Cameo maker machine and a sheet of sticker vinyl!
For this quick project, I used two standard linear feet of sticker vinyl in teal and purple colors from the Studio. Similar to the Glowforge project, you’ll have lots of sticker vinyl left over that you can use to personalize other items like mugs, notebooks and household items.
Cost Overview: I purchased the water bottles from Walmart for $1 each, and the sticker vinyl costs $1.50 each, for a total project cost of $5.
Personalized Stickers
Do your kids like animals? Roblox? Superheroes? Create tailored stickers that cater to their unique interests and personality using stickers printed from the Brother Scan N Cut in the Studio!
Cost Overview: For this project, I used one sheet of vinyl sticker paper from Studio 300, and I used Canva to design the stickers. The total cost of the project was $1.
Let’s Review
The final cost to make all projects was $15, and with my budget of $30, I was able to go to the dollar store for a few extra goodies like pencil sharpeners, scented crayons, pens and toys. I hope these projects have inspired you to make special little treats for your back-to-school kiddos! We look forward to seeing you in Studio 300!
