Winter means colder temperatures but clear night skies—a perfect time to borrow our Seestar S50 telescope. The Seestar S50 is a fully computerized and automated telescope that makes it easy to explore the skies and capture images. It’s compact, portable and easy to set up. This telescope runs on internal batteries, and we have included an extra 20k mAh power bank to keep you exploring longer. It also includes a solar filter for daytime viewing of the sun. This kit has everything you need to get started and comes in a convenient backpack, making it easy to transport to the location of your choice.

In order to properly use the Seestar telescope, you must download the Seestar app on your mobile device. The app is available for both Apple and Android. Once downloaded, you can create an account and run through the connection process. The telescope requires a Wi-Fi connection. You can use your phone’s data or connect to the Seestar network. The Seestar network can vary in remote locations.
The Seestar app is a robust astronomy guide and control for the telescope. It comes with tutorials to help get you started. I highly recommend the “Get to Know the Seestar App” tutorial to help you learn to navigate the app. The app also gives you a few modes to choose from, depending on what you’re trying to view:
- Stargazing Mode: Target nebulae, star clusters and galaxies
- Solar System Mode: Take a tour of our solar system
- Scenery Mode: Take pictures of daytime scenery
The Seestar telescope is available for a five-day checkout from Studio 300. In order to check out the telescope, you must complete Studio 300 orientation. Simply fill out the form to request access to the online orientation. Once access is granted, complete the orientation and submit your completion forms, and you’ll be ready to check out the Seestar telescope and much more.
Save the date! We will be hosting the Adler Planetarium for Scopes in the City on Thursday, February 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. (weather permitting), where Adler astronomers and staff will lead a free telescope observing program. The event is outdoors, and no registration is required. We hope to see you there!
