Sometimes when I find a great book, I look for more books by the same author. Whether it’s more books in a series or just one book, I need to hear everything the author has to say. I feel like I don’t want to leave the author’s world just yet. I have to have more! And when I read a great book, I can’t wait to tell someone about it, to get someone else to join me in the world to talk about it together.
Everyone has different ideas about what makes a good book. That’s why sometimes an author and a book can be rejected by many publishers before it ever gets published. It needs to find that one editor, that one reader who feels like they have just read the greatest book and they have to share it with someone else.
You don’t need to be a publisher to share the books you love. Think of the last book you read that really excited you… ok, got it? It could be a book you read for school, or maybe you found it at the library. Where did you hear about it? I bet for most of you, someone recommended it to you. I bet that once they read it, they couldn’t wait to tell you all about it—careful of course not to give too many spoilers—and once they told you about the book, you couldn’t wait to get your hands on it. Maybe you even came to the library and asked one of my co-workers or me to find it for you. Then, after you read it, you had to share it with someone, too. That’s how I get to know most of the books I’ve read.
